Spring has finally arrived and if you are someone like me, then your mind is already drifting to warmer locales. Yes, France is indeed a small country, but it has two major water bodies bordering it, namely the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. These endless miles of beachfront property are simply jam packed with quaint little French villages and larger, chaotic cities.

The towns form a very fine arc surrounded by sand and are backed by a parallel curve of some of the most savory smelling, delicious fish restaurants in the world. But on heading a short way towards the west and then towards the south through the refreshing scenery of the Pas de Calais, you'll stumble across some of the most beautiful beaches you'll ever encounter - and to think that these beauties are so ridiculously close to those gigantic specimens in Britain! From the white cliffs, the fine sands, the sparkling waters and the shining sun, France is definitely the most exquisite beach destination in the world.

If you are planning on visiting some of these exotic French beaches then you've come to the right place!

The Best Beaches in France

Here is a list of some of the most popular tourist-drawing beaches that most people already know about. in fact, as a first time visitor to this beautiful country, you may have not even heard of these beautiful beaches. But, these are all the beaches that are left untouched and unspoilt by humanity and offer some of the most breathtaking views ever:
  • Villefranche sur Mer - Just a hop, skip and a jump away from the lovely town of 'Nice', Villefranche sur Mer is quieter, sandier and less tourist-ridden than its popular and high-profile neighbor. There are only a handful of cafes and shops here, but you don't come here to shop do you? Sunbathing is more like it! Beautiful mansions are scattered everywhere and the delightful markets adds to the pleasant aura.
  • Cap Ferret - the wonderful peninsula of Cap Ferret that is situated near Bordeaux is bordered by a beach on either side. This is great place to go to if you want to get away from it all, you can indulge in a number of activities like swimming, surfing or fishing or you could simply relax in the sun.
  • Sete - This charming little fishing village is jam packed with museums, beachfront property and historical buildings. This port features great number of brightly painted row houses that make for some of the most amazing photo opportunities! Go to Mont Claire for breathtakingly beautiful views of the sea and city. The best place to go if you want to visit Montpellier, Nimes, Agde and Beziers.
  • La Grande Motte - Just a short ride away from the hip and lovely Languedoc capital city of Montpellier, this extravagant beach resort is loaded with all sorts of things to do - from nature hikes and water sports to going on day trips and sight seeing - it makes a marvelous vacation spot. Take your kids along to the water park or when you are going to play tennis or golf. Go on trips to the Camargue to view white horses, flamingoes and black bulls.
  • Argeles sur Mer - Ever heard of Perpignan? Just a short journey from here, Argeles sur Mer is a lot more relaxing and is far cozier than its neighbor. It has an enchanting downtown setup with cute little shops and cafes flanking the streets. It boasts of a long stretch of coastland along the world-renowned Cote Vermeille and just a short drive away will take you to Spain.
  • Saint-Jean de Luz - This quaint little Aquitaine village is indeed very commendable. Close to the Pyrenees and just a few minutes away from the Spanish border, it lies in the very heart of the ever-beautiful Basque country and is filled with unique and adorable Basque architecture. This could easily be one of my favorite beach destinations in France, which is why I saved the best for the last! Though it is a fairly small town, you have access to everything - from markets and shops to cafes - everything that a large city would provide you. Parking however, is almost impossible to find here.
Though France is a small country, it certainly has some of the best beaches to offer. These long miles of French beaches are filled with wondrous delights and quaint little villages and town and even bustling cities. So, make plans to spend you next vacation here that will combine the mystic allure of the French towns and the marvelous beauty of the waters, by visiting any of these beach destinations.
