How to Become a Recognised Travel Agent

Being a recognized travel agent means you have acquired International Air Transport Association (IATA) accreditation. This shows the public that you have a license, are qualified and meet the criteria to be a recognized travel agent. Being recognized has plenty of benefits. You get increased visibility to the public, the ability to join a specialized network, the chance to get exclusive access across the globe and the ability to apply for scholarships. Applying for accreditation is easy, and well worth the effort.

Instructions

    1

Obtain a travel agent certification or some other kind proof of you working with a travel-related business. Take courses that specialize in training travel agents. Look for online programs that offer travel agent certification if you are not certified.

    2

Check to see that you meet all the criteria according to the Travel Agent Handbook. Things like codes of practice, code of reservations ethics and other guidelines are traits that travel agents should practice in their day to day dealings.

    3

Complete an application form and pay the accreditation fee. Visit the IATA website to print out an application form.

    4

Send in your application and all fees required. Include all the necessary documents required.

    5

Receive contact alerting you that you are now a recognized travel agent. Become familair with the IATA agency rules.
