Like many large Italian cities, Pisa has several train stations: Pisa Centrale, Pisa Aeroporto and Pisa San Rossore. Book your ticket from Pisa Centrale and expect to travel for 3 to 4 hours. Since trains leave from Pisa to Rome multiple times an hour, even if you miss a train you still have many options.

Instructions

Choose a Train to Travel from Pisa to Rome

    1

See the countryside in a leisurely way on primarily second class seats with Regional Transport trains. They stop at nearly every station between Pisa and Rome; bring a book!

    2

Travel with a bit more speed on Direct or 'espresso' trains. They are faster than Regional trains with fewer stops, and they cover more area.

    3

Visit Rome during tourist season and take advantage of Inter-Regional trains. There are more of these trains during tourist season because they travel further.

    4

Book Intercity and Intercity Plus trains to travel the long distance between Pisa and Rome, for they are comfortable while still remaining affordable.

    5

View the countryside through deluxe Eurostar Italia (ES) train windows; book a ticket on an ES Italia train that offers high speed travel with luxurious accommodations such as air conditioning to both first and second class cars, easy handicap accessibility, and rooms featuring internet access.

Travel by Train from Pisa to Rome

    6

Your trip from Pisa to Rome will take 3 to 4 1/2 hours, depending on the train you choose. Trains leave for Rome five times a day.

    7

Go to the Trenitalia website; enter Pisa as your departure city and Rome as your destination. The options you'll be shown are listed according to departure time; you can use the tabs to see them listed by how long the trip takes or by the number of stops the train makes along the way.

    8

Look for a shopping cart in the 'Buy' column next to your chosen travel option, then click on the icon to purchase your ticket. If there is no shopping cart in that column, you'll have to go to a station or an authorized travel agency to book your ticket.

Find Your Train Car at the Station

    9

Locate the correct car on the train; if you have a reservation you must find the correct car to match your car and seat number. Check the car number beside the door. A number 1 or 2 located on the side of the car indicates first and second class cars. A yellow stripe can also mean first class, while a green stripe can mean second class.

    10

Look for the identification panel of the side of the car. At the top, you will find the name of the city from which the train is arriving. At the bottom of the panel you will see the final destination. The area in between will list the important cities the train will stop at on its way to the final destination.
