How to Clean a Travel Trailer Water System

A travel trailer uses three different systems for water. Black, gray and fresh water systems provide the means to shower, clean, use the toilet and have drinking water. The trailer's fresh water system includes the holding tank, kitchen sink and bathroom shower and sink water. Clean the fresh water system once a year to keep it fresh and bacteria free. The process takes a half a day to complete.

Instructions

    1

Park the travel trailer and disconnect all water connections to the rig. Open the fresh water tank drain and drain out all water from the system. Turn on the faucets in the kitchen, shower and bathroom to empty all residual water from the hoses. Close the faucets.

    2

Mix one cup of bleach to one gallon of water in the bucket and open the fresh water tank fill hose. Place the funnel into the hose and pour the bleach solution into the fresh water tanks. Use the funnel so some of the bleach water hits the sides of the intake hose.

    3

Let the bleach solution sit in the tank for an hour and then fill the tank with fresh water two-thirds full. Turn on all water faucets and let them run until you notice the faint smell of bleach in the travel trailer. Turn off the faucets and open the drain on the fresh water tank. Empty all of the water.

    4

Fill the tank with fresh water. The travel trailer's water system is now ready for another season of clean use.
