Travel sites allow you to plan a vacation by viewing multiple hotel, car rental and airfare options at the same time, making it easy to compare prices. These engines often provide the best deals you can find online, but each site has its own specials.

Refunds

Before booking through a travel site, review the refund policies. Some travel sites will refund you a certain percentage of a trip, while others will not refund your money if you cancel. Orbitz will give you a refund of the difference if you find a better deal anywhere else.

Special Features

Each travel site offers special features to users. For example, Kayak searches all websites, including its competitors, while Priceline allows you to bid (or name your own price) on hotel rooms and car rentals. Hotwire provides specials on hotel rooms, cars and flights, but specializes in hotel packages. Some sites may give you a better deal with certain car companies---such as Budget, Enterprise or Hertz---with whom they partner.

Timing

Compare the dates of your travel on different sites, as each site works with its own companies to offer you deals. If you don't have a specific time set aside to travel, experiment with dates. Many sites let you search for flexible dates, allowing you to search for the best price within a series of days or months.
