Solicit referrals. Ask your family and friends if they can recommend a travel agent. You want to find a travel agent that has a track record for vacations going as planned. Also find out if your family and friends have had a bad experience with a particular agency or agent.

Locate agents. Sources for this include the yellow pages, a specialized Internet search engine or directory such as Locate a Travel Agency and family and friends. Often travel agents will have an office at your local mall.

Connect with agents. Most agents do not charge a fee for information about vacation packages and travel arrangements. You can work with more than one travel agent to find out information before you commit to their services.
