How to Get a Travel Itinerary for Passport Expedition

If you need an expedited new or renewed passport, Passport Services through the U.S. Department of State will issue it in less than two weeks as long as you provide the required documentation. In addition to providing two passport-sized photos, a birth certificate or expired U.S. passport and a completed Form DS-82 (available on the Passport Services website) and Form DS-11 (if necessary), you will need to provide a copy of your flight itinerary. If you're traveling internationally for business and don't have a ticket or flight reservations, your company can issue a Company Letter of Expedite. Printed on corporate letterhead, this letter signed by an authorizing manager should explain the purpose of your travel.

Instructions

Travel Itinerary Through An Airline

    1

Open the email from the airline or from the travel service you use to book your travel reservation. Airlines and online travel services such as Orbitz require that you provide an email as a point of contact. When you book your reservation, their computer systems automatically generate an email confirming your reservation.

    2

Find the "print view" icon in your emailed reservation. If you can't find it, look for the words "Printable Version" in the emailed reservation. There may also be a "Printer" icon in the upper right corner of the reservation. Click on the "Printer" icon. A copy of your travel flight itinerary will be generated. The flight itinerary should have a reservation number, the date of your travel, the flight information and your destination. Print an extra copy for your records.

    3

Overnight your travel itinerary with your passport application and other required documentation to the U.S. Department of State Passport Services Office in your region. You can find the nearest office on its website. If you have an appointment at a local Passport Services Office, take all required documentation including the travel itinerary with you.

Corporate Letter of Expedite

    4

Notify the manager who authorizes your corporate travel that you need a passport and a Company Letter of Expedite. This letter, printed on corporate letterhead, should serve as a substitute when an airline ticket hasn't yet been purchased.

    5

Provide the manager with the dates of your travel, the destination and locations where you'll be working and the purpose of your travel. In the Company Letter of Expedite addressed to the U.S. Department of State Passport Services, the manager should provide your name and your position in the company, the purpose of your urgent international travel and the dates, airline and destinations to be included in your travel itinerary.

    6

Review the Company Letter of Expedite. Make sure the letter has the correct information included and a signature and title of the authorizing manager.

    7

Photocopy the Company Letter of Expedite. Save a copy for your records and include the original in your passport application.

    8

Overnight the Company Letter of Expedite with your passport application and other required documentation to the U.S. Department of State Passport Services Office in your region. You can find the nearest office on its website. If you have an appointment at the Passport Services Office, take all required documentation including the Company Letter of Expedite with you.

Travel Itinerary Through a Travel Agent

    9

Call your travel agent. Ordinarily, when a travel agent books your trip reservations, she prints out a copy of the itinerary for your records. However, if you don't have a copy, she can pull up your reservation in her computer and print it out.

    10

Ask the travel agent to email a file copy of your itinerary, one you can print out at home. If you don't have a computer or a printer, ask the travel agent to mail a legible copy to you.

    11

Photocopy the travel itinerary before you mail the original to Passport Services. You should save a copy for your records.

    12

Overnight the required documents with the travel itinerary to the Passport Services Office in your region. You can find the correct office on the U.S. Department of State, Passport Services website. If you have an appointment at one of the Passport Offices, take the travel itinerary with the other required documentation to your appointment.
