How to Hook Up Water to a Travel Trailer

A travel trailer allows you to take amenities of your home with you when you go on a road trip. The travel trailer gives you a place to sleep, cook and eat. They also feature a bathroom with a shower. Some of these amenities require a water source to use. You can always fill up your fresh water tank for your trip, but this adds extra weight to your trailer, making it more difficult to tow. Hooking your travel trailer up to a running water supply at a campground is a more efficient way to supply your trailer with water.

Purchase a special drinking water hose. These are available at camping supply stores or other retailers that carry trailer supplies. The hoses are white in color and are sanitized for safe drinking water. Do not use a regular garden hose.

Buy an RV water filter. This is an optional step. However, your drinking water will taste better if you run it through a filter prior to using it in your trailer.

Locate the city water port on the outside of your travel trailer. This is generally on the right side of the trailer when you are standing at the hitch end. The actual location depends on your model. It will be covered by a white plastic cover.

Screw the male end of the water filter to the female port on the side of the travel trailer.

Secure the drinking water hose to the other end of the water filter.

Screw the other end of the drinking water hose onto the spigot at your campsite. Turn the water on and your trailer will be supplied with water. The water heater will fill and you will be able to use all of the features in your trailer that require water without using your fresh water tank.
