Travel experiences offer opportunities for you to expand your personal growth and develop skills and traits that can make you more marketable to employers, according to information on the Ball State University website. You can include travel experience on your resume to create a more well-rounded profile that can draw the interest of employers. Yet, the type of travel experience you choose to include and the way that you incorporate it into your resume are important.
Instructions
- 1
Write down a list of all your travel experiences that aided in your personal growth or helped you develop certain skills or traits that could be viewed as valuable by employers. For instance, if you traveled to Japan and climbed Mount Fuji, you could list that experience as one that helped you develop perseverance. If you backpacked across Europe with only a few hundred dollars in your pocket, you can list that experience as one that developed your troubleshooting and creative-thinking skills. You could also state that it helped you develop the traits of adaptability and flexibility.
2Organize your resume with headings such as "Education," "Work Experience" and "Interests" or "Activities."
3Place your travel experiences under the most appropriate heading on your resume. If the travel experience included actual work experience, such as working in a hostel for six months to earn additional traveling money, include it under the "Work Experience" heading. Include the position you held, the name and location of the business and the dates you were employed. If you didn't become employed as part of your travel experience, include the experience in the "Interests and Activities" section of your resume. List the location of your travel, activities and dates. If your travel was education related, list the travel under the "Education" section of your resume, along with the institution attended, any degrees or certificates earned and the relevant dates.
4Include key skills and accomplishments that you developed as a part of your travel experiences. List skills and accomplishments in bulleted form underneath the basic information about your travel.
