Environmentally damaging greenhouse gases are emitted into the environment every time fuel is burned. Air travel is one way that humans create greenhouse gas. According to the David Suzuki Foundation, air travel is responsible for as much as nine percent of the impact of human activity on climate change. Many people believe reducing air travel is a crucial component of reducing greenhouse gas. Unfortunately, air travel is on the rise. Fortunately, there are several way to reduce the need for air travel and to limit the amount of greenhouse gases we emit when air travel is absolutely necessary.

    Suggest that your employer consider utilizing teleconferencing and video conferencing whenever possible for business meetings.

    Take vacations closer to home so that flying isn't necessary. Take a a train to your destination or coordinate vacation plans with friends so you can carpool.

    If you have to fly, take a bus or other pubic transportation to the airport to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases you emit getting to the airport. Use airport shuttles whenever possible rather than renting a car,

    Consolidate your tasks so you can fly to a destination once rather than having to make multiple trips.

    Pack as light as possible when you do fly. Lighter planes burn less fuel.
