How to Register a Travel Trailer in Texas

A travel trailer is a trailer used as a temporary dwelling place, pulled by a truck. You could be a band and need a trailer to haul your music equipment and house yourselves when you're on the road. Or maybe you just like to take the occasional camping tour. Either way, you must register your travel trailer with the state of Texas Department of Motor Vehicles in order to drive it legally in the state.

Instructions

    1

Obtain insurance for your travel trailer. You can add this to the car insurance you have for your other vehicle.

    2

Have your travel trailer inspected at a certified inspection station in Texas and obtain proof that your vehicle passed the inspection.

    3

Fill out the VTR-141 form, which is a Travel Trailer or Park Model Trailer Verification form.

    4

Visit your County Tax Assessor's Office and submit the title for your trailer, proof of safety inspection, and proof of insurance along with the VTR-141 form. Pay the registration fee and you'll be ready to roll.
