How to Travel to Europe With Children

Traveling anywhere with children can be challenging, but traveling abroad with them can be even more difficult. However, international travel can be a good experience for children and can create memories they will always remember.

Instructions

Traveling With Children

    1

Prepare for the flight. If you live in a country that is a considerable distance from Europe, you will want to prepare for a long flight. It is important to pack enough carry-on items to keep each child busy. Try to bring something that is especially fun for each individual child. Books, music and laptops are a good idea. These can keep children busy for quite some time.

    2

Find ways for the children to experience each country. Children can learn a foreign language easier than adults. As you travel each country in Europe, you can make a game of having your child pick up new phrases in each country's language. You could choose a few phrases for each country.

    3

Make the travel accommodations interesting for them. Try to find interesting hotels or bed and breakfasts in which to stay. Hotels with indoor water parks are a big attraction for children. Other hotels have interesting histories or facades, causing the children to be excited to stay there.

    4

Find children-friendly destinations. Europe has many old buildings that children might be interested in viewing, especially castles. Europe has many zoos, estates with mazes and numerous places to hike and view the beautiful scenery. Different modes of transportation can also be exciting to the children. You can take a horse drawn carriage ride, trains, boats, cable cars and subways. If you are looking to visit a museum, try to find one that offers a guide for children and features children's activities. Otherwise the children might get bored with the long tours.

    5

Choose restaurants carefully. Traveling to different counties with different cultures can provide a problem for parents with picky eaters. Most restaurants will offer a children's menu, but unless the food is similar to your native country, the child may not want to eat it. A lot of restaurants in Europe will post a menu outside of the establishment, which can make it easier for the family to choose.

    6

Don't overdo it. It is good to keep the children busy and entertained, but be careful not to over-exert them. An overtired child can make the vacation stressful for the entire family. Try to plan activities around your child's schedule and keep a time open for naps, meals and an early bedtime.
