How to Travel With Homemade Baby Food

Having the ability to travel with homemade baby food is the difference between your baby getting the best nutrition during travel or not. Commercial baby food can contain preservatives, salt and sugar. In particular, too much sugar in the diet can lead to weight gain and diabetes later in life. Too much salt in particular can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure later in life as well. Preservatives can cause headaches, and can affect immune response, according to Eve V. Allen, Ph.D. Also, baby food in jars can sit on warehouse shelves for years.

Instructions

Banana Baby Food

    1

Pack a banana, a container with a lid and a fork in your baby's tote bag.

    2

Peel the banana and break it into two pieces. Put them in the container and mash them with the fork until their texture is the consistency of pudding.

    3

Feed the mashed banana to your baby. If there is any left over, put the lid on and save it for later. Mashed banana keeps well in an airtight container.

Frozen Homemade Baby Food

    4

Puree the foods that you use to make your homemade baby food in a blender or food processor. Put them in ice cube trays and freeze them.

    5

Put all the frozen baby food cubes that you will need for your travels in freezer bags.

    6

Put the freezer bags into your cooler with ice packs. They will keep for eight hours.

    7

Thaw your homemade baby food cubes. You can thaw them for 30 to 40 seconds in a microwave. If you are camping you can put them in a plastic bag and then put the bag in a pan of warm water on a gas stove or on a fire. Be sure to watch the contents so they don't get too hot.

    8

Feed your baby with your heated up homemade baby food.
