The perfect dress usually tops the checklist of things that a teenage girl must have to make her prom perfect. Sometimes she puts months of searching go into finding a dress that becomes and integral part of memories that will last a lifetime. If she agrees to accompany a boy at an out-of-town prom, she may face the challenge of traveling by plane with the formal dress. Contacting the right party ahead of time and protecting the dress by wrapping it properly will ensure that it arrives at the destination on time and in new condition.

    Transport the dress in your carry-on luggage to avoid the risk that you will become separated from the dress.

    Ask the airline reservations agent if you can hang your dress in the closet in business class or in the cabinet used by the cabin crews. Make the request at the time of booking your flight because you may find competition for hanging space of flights to popular vacation destinations. If the airlines cannot guarantee that you can hang the dress in a closet, put the garment bag into a hard-sided suitcase that will fit in the overhead compartment.

    Stuff the dress with tissue and dry cleaner bags. This helps to keep wrinkles away and maintain the shape of the dress. Wrap your dress in acid-free tissue paper and put it in a garment bag.

    Remove the dress from the packing immediately and place it in a clean, dry, well-ventilated space once you arrive at your destination. If possible, spread a full skirt out on a sheet-covered floor.
