How to Work As a Travel Consultant for a Flight Center

The Flight Centre is a global company with offices in 10 countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom. Travel consultants with the Flight Centre book flights, hotels, cruises and car rentals. They coordinate vacations, secure rail passes, provide travel insurance and provide information on destinations, visas and currency requirements. Travel consultants can only apply for positions online, but you should have your resume ready for the interview.

    Gain the appropriate qualifications. Get some travel experience and travel booking experience. Work in a position where you are taking care of customers and gaining sales experience. A college degree is preferred, but a strong school background is required. You should have been in the upper percentiles academically in your class. Learn self-motivation and how to build a client list. Gather the appropriate paperwork to work in the country of your choice.

    Visit the Flight Centre website and select "careers" to review all of the current job openings. Review the job requirements. The corporate website has information on what a day for a travel consultant looks like. Review the website to prepare for the application, job interview and training. Check details to make sure that it is a job you can succeed at and one you want to do.

    Select the job you are interested in and fill out an online application. Sell yourself. Send your experience and qualifications to the company to show that you fit in the position.

    Make yourself available for a telephone interview. A recruiter will call you for a phone interview. Ask the recruiter any questions you have about the job, company and location. If things go well, the recruiter will schedule a time for an online assessment and in-person interview.

    Complete the online assessment. The recruiter will give you all of the information you need to complete the assessment, but be sure you complete it in the time required.

    Go to the interview. Show up at least five minutes early, and practice your best interview skills. Answer the interview questions honestly while selling yourself to the company representative. Ask questions about the position, corporate culture, company management, requirements and any details you need clarified. Prepare and bring several copies of your resume to the interview.

    Prepare for training. If your interview process goes well, the recruiter will set up your training.

    Begin working. Manage a client list. Account for profit and loss in your team, and create incentives and achieve goals. Advise customers and build client vacation schedules, tours and products and services. Serve the customer's every travel need. Attend periodic retraining. Multitask your duties. Answer telephones. Work with a team and attend meetings to update your team on customers, accommodations and country changes. Research destinations, transportation, country requirements and changes, insurance or other travel topics to improve your knowledge and assist your customers.
