How to Install a Roof AC in a Travel Trailer

Most travel trailers have air conditioning vents installed to the roof. These opening-vents are used to mount air conditioning units to the roof of the travel trailer. The air conditioner keeps the camping cabin cool and the temperature regulated in hot environments. Install and air conditioner onto the roof of your travel trailer in half a day. Have an assistant help with the lifting and raising of the air conditioner to the top of the rig.

Instructions

    1

Park the trailer and make sure the main circuit breaker is off and the trailer is disconnected from all outside electrical hookups.

    2

Climb up to the roof of the travel trailer. Use a step ladder if the trailer has no built-in ladder. Unscrew the retaining screws on the roof vent bracket with a power screwdriver. Remove the bracket.

    3

Lift the air conditioner to the roof. Have an assistant help if needed. Align the air conditioner attachment screws to the vent roof screws. Screw the air conditioner onto the vent.

    4

Go inside the trailer, and attach the air conditioner wires to the RV wiring. The RV wiring uses colored wires that correspond to the color of wires on the air conditioner. Twist like color to like color. Add a wire nut to each wire connection, and push the wires into the roof housing.

    5

Push the faceplate up and onto the trailer ceiling. Drill the faceplate to the ceiling by placing the retaining screws into the faceplate screw holes and drilling them to the ceiling. The faceplate fits over the vent. Apply silicone caulk around the edge of the faceplate and on the roof around the vent edges. Let the caulk dry.
