How to Keep Clothes from Getting Wrinkled While Traveling

Trying to look your best when living out of a suitcase can be a challenge for even the hippest fashionista. But, with a little packing savvy, your duds can look fresh and wrinkle-free throughout your trip. Wrinkle-resistant materials coupled with a set of travel-tested packing tips and a little fabric freshening can help clothes look crisp and ready to wear upon arrival.

Instructions

    1

Begin by gathering all the items that must be taken along. Choose clothing made from fabrics that don't wrinkle easily, like polyester or nylon, or that are treated to resist wrinkling. Avoid bringing items that will be provided by the hotel, like hair dryers and clothes irons.

    2

Choose a suitcase that will accommodate the items that will be taken on the trip. Forcing items into a suitcase or carry-on that is too small creates a wrinkled mess from the start.

    3

Avoid packing heavy items that will crush the clothes in the suitcase. For heavy items that must be taken along, place them on the side of the suitcase that will be the bottom when it is standing up, so it won't be on top of the clothing.

    4

Use plastic dry cleaner bags to wrap items that will be hung and place only one outfit inside each bag. The plastic will allow items to slip past each other easily, preventing wrinkles.

    5

Roll any items that will not be hung including jeans and T-shirts. Fold jeans so the legs are stacked on top of each other and roll from the cuffs to the waistband. The arms of T-shirts should be folded back and the shirt rolled from the waistband to the neck.

    6

Pack the items into the suitcase, using smaller items, like socks and undergarments, to fill any spaces between larger items so clothing will not move around within the suitcase.

    7

At the hotel, fill the spray bottle with water. Hang any items that may have wrinkled and lightly spray them with water, brushing any wrinkles to help remove them. Let them hang and dry overnight while the wrinkles disappear.
