How to Travel With Lupron

Lupron is a hormone administered to men with prostate cancer, women with gynecological disorders and children with early onset puberty. Lupron overstimulates natural hormone production so that the production eventually slows and stops. Lupron is administered as an injection. The medication must be kept under 77 degrees Fahrenheit and away from direct sunlight. Traveling with Lupron is simple with advanced preparation that is tailored to the type of travel you will undertake.

Instructions

    1

Keep the syringe and medication in the original box.

    2

Place the box of medication in a plastic bag to protect it from moisture.

    3

Place the medication and ice pack in the cooler to ensure that the Lupron is not exposed to sunlight and that it remains under 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

    4

Ensure that the Lupron remains cool when traveling by car. Stop frequently to obtain new ice packs to keep the temperature in the cooler below 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

    5

Declare any amounts of Lupron exceeding 3 oz. to security officers at airport check points. Medications and liquids to keep medications cool are allowed during air travel, but they must be declared to a security officer, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

    6

Dispose of used syringes in a sharps container during travel to avoid injury.
