How to Write an Effective Travel Review

When returning from an exciting trip, writing a travel review is a great way to creatively communicate your experiences and help others plan a similar trip of their own. Writing a review that is informative, effective and entertaining isn't all that easy. By following these steps, you can focus on painting a visual picture for your readers while providing them with all the necessary travel information needed for planning. This will enable you to create a well-written, helpful review of your travel experience.

Instructions

    1

Take a notebook or travel diary with you on your trip. Use this to write notes about things that inspired you, restaurant names and foods you tried and details about your accommodation. This information will help you formulate a review once the trip is over.

    2

To begin the review, describe your experience to readers by appealing to the senses with your writing. Grab their attention and paint a picture while giving them the information they need to travel to the location. Be direct and to the point, but include necessary tips and facts.

    3

Be honest in your review. If you did not like something, such as a restaurant or hotel, say so, but also explain why. Review your critique to ensure that you do not sound overly negative and provide valid information for your attitude towards the experience.

    4

Give detailed information regarding travel season, locations, prices, names of establishments and hours of operation. You want your readers to be able to plan a trip for themselves based on your review. It might not always be appropriate to list everything within the review itself, but provide links so that readers can find out this information.

    5

Provide accurate information in your review. Double check your facts, times, dates and any other pertinent information before adding them to the piece.

    6

Highlight the best experiences from your perspective. Long trips can present a lot of information to cover and writing about day to day activities is not always important to fellow travelers. Keep the article focused on the important points of the trip.

    7

Add pictures to your review that allow you to show the experience as you tell about it in your writing. It is possible to paint a picture with words, but readers will most likely want to see pictures of your experiences as well.
