The trip from Edmonton to Toronto takes two days on the rails, and covers roughly the middle section of Canada. The scenery, mostly prairie, is certainly nice, but not as breathtaking as that found in the Rocky Mountains. Travelers between these two large cities tend to be business people, but tourists will find it a relaxing way to get across the country.

Instructions

Know the Route

    1

Leave Edmonton on Monday, Wednesday or Saturday. The train leaves the station at about 6:30 p.m.

    2

Travel for a little more than 48 hours. You'll arrive at Toronto at around 8 p.m. two days after you leave. (Remember to account for the changing time zones.)

Review Your Trip Choices

    3

Review the classes before you book your travel. Silver & Blue Class, which has five levels and entitles the traveler to a bed and shower, generally costs more than twice as much as Comfort Class. Silver & Blue class riders have their meal included as part of the fare, which accounts for a lot of the price difference. They also have access to club and observation cars.

    4

Plan to bring your laptop to stay in touch. Wireless Internet is available on certain trains and in most train stations on a pay-per-minute basis.

Book Your Travel

    5

Study the details of the Canrailpass, which offers significant savings to a person who wants to tour Canada. With a Canrailpass, a traveler can see the entire country for one fee. During the off-peak season, the pass costs a little over $500 Canadian for adults. Children, students and seniors can get the pass for about 10 percent less. Save money by traveling off-peak; the peak season adds more than 60 percent to the price.

    6

Book your travel online at the Rail Canada Web site. You may also make travel arrangements over the telephone or with a travel agent, or just buy your tickets in person at the train station.
