Philadelphia, affectionately known as Philly or "The City of Brotherly Love,' is the largest city in Pennsylvania and one of the oldest cities in the US. Philadelphia offers a wonderful historical heritage blended with cultural diversity, and traveling to it by train from Boston couldn't be easier.

Instructions

Book Your Train Travel to Philadelphia

    1

Plan to ride on Amtrak's Acela Express from South Station in Boston to 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. Fares range from under $100 to over $175, depending on what class you book. Travel time from Boston to Philadelphia averages about 6 or 7 hours.

    2

Call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak's web site in the "Resources" section below. On the web site, you can book your train reservations via Amtrak's Fare Finder. You can also navigate the site if you have a PDA, Blackberry or other handheld device.

    3

If you ordered your tickets online or by phone, pick them up at a ticket agent or at one of the Quik-Trak kiosks that can be found at many Amtrak locations (you'll need to enter your reservation number). If you've booked your trip far in advance, you can also request that your tickets be mailed to you.

Navigate Your Way Around Philadelphia

    4

Find easy access to major roadways from the 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, such as the Vine Street Expressway, Interstate 76 (also known as the Schuylkill Expressway), and Market Street.

    5

Remember that the letter 'R' on a subway indicates that it's a regional commuter line heading into the Philadelphia suburbs. Most people find it convenient to get around the city via the Market-Frankford Blue Line, locally known as the 'El' train.

    6

Stop by the visitors center on 3rd and Chestnut streets to get a free map of Philadelphia and its mostly one-way streets (the exceptions are Parkway, Vine Street, Broad Street, and lower Market Street).
