Book Your Train Travel From Ireland to France

    Visit the Irish Rail Web site to book a train from one of the points in Ireland where you can ferry to France--Rosslare or Cork (see Resources).

    Choose your ferry passage from the Direct Ferries Web site according to the port in Ireland selected in Step 1 (see Resources).

    Plan to book ferry passage with Brittany Ferries, leaving Ireland from the port of Cork and sailing to Roscoff. There are up to 2 passages per week with an approximate passage time of 13 hours.

    Reserve ferry passage with Irish Ferries if leaving Rosslare, Ireland to sail to Cherbourg. There are up to 3 sailings per week with an approximate passage time of 19 hours.

    Note that Irish Ferries also provides passage from Rosslare, Ireland to Roscoff, France (17 hours).

    Know that if you intend to cross the Irish Sea before entering France by way of the United Kingdom, you may travel to almost any destination in France via the French Rail Company (SNCF) or the Eurostar service.

    Understand that the SNCF provides direct train routes from most European countries, while the Eurostar is a high-speed service that crosses the English Channel to connect London with Lille and Paris. If this is an option for you, visit the Rail Europe Web site for details (see Resources).
