Several trains travel from Miami to New York every day. A direct trip to New York's Penn Station from Miami's station takes just over 30 hours. You can choose from a direct route that will include a leisurely day and night of travel, or you can venture to several cities, changing trains as you go. It's easy to book your ticket from Miami to New York.

Instructions

Schedule Your Trip

    1

Log on to the Amtrak Web site (see below for link).

    2

Select the 'Schedules' tab on the home page of Amtrak's Web site, and type 'Miami' and 'New York' into the appropriate fields. Then click on 'Next.'

    3

Choose the schedule from the list that works best for you, follow prompts to select your amenities and then book your ticket.

    4

Consider reserving a sleeper car if you are taking one train all the way to New York, so you can sleep comfortably in peace. This reservation comes with a complimentary breakfast and newspaper on most lines.

Pack Your Bags

    5

Keep in mind that the weather in New York, particularly if you are traveling during the winter, may be drastically different from that in Miami. Be sure to pack the right clothing in your carry-on so that you'll feel warm and comfortable when waiting for your stowed luggage.

    6

Remember that only two carry-on bags are allowed on the train. Pack a deck of cards, a book or other amusements to help pass the time. If you are traveling overnight, you may also want to pack toiletries and pajamas.

    7

Arrange to have your checked bags delivered directly to New York, even if you are switching trains. Your bags will be there waiting for you when you arrive in New York.

    8

Check in at least 2 hours before boarding time to get a good seat. Amtrak often assigns seats only after you have arrived.

    9

Check your baggage, and give any pertinent directions about your belongings to the attendant at that time. Amtrak has a good reputation for caring for luggage.

    10

Inquire about stops if you are traveling direct, and consider deboarding in cities along the way. You may want to stretch your legs in Washington, D.C.'s popular Union Station, where there is a large selection of shops and eateries.
