In the past, you could only obtain travel agent certification inside a classroom with a certified instructor. With technological innovations, a travel agent certification is possible on your own time and in the comfort of your own home. If you want to be a travel consultant, business travel agent or cruise specialist, you can earn your travel agent certification online. Every program is different, and you can earn your travel agent certification in as soon as six months to a year.

Brainstorm where you want your travel agent career to go. Decide what emphasis you want to make (if any). For example, if you want to focus on Spain travel destinations you may want to gear your degree towards the Spanish culture by taking Spanish classes. You will want to pick a school that offers both options.

Shop around for the perfect online college. Do not settle on an online school for your travel agent certification until you peruse a variety of programs. Pick the program that best fits your time frame, schedule and desires as a travel agent. For example, if you need your certification as soon as possible you must find a school that offers a shorter program.

Enroll in your program of choice. You will need your transcripts from any previous schools (including high school) and a credit card to pay for the online school. Apply and follow the steps directed by the school (this will vary from college to college).

Pick out your classes. When selecting your geography, computer and business classes keep in mind the amount of time you have to dedicate to school. Outside of classes expect about two to three hours of homework daily. Do not take more classes than you can handle.
