How to Make Air Travel Reservations

Today's technology allows you to make air travel reservations from your laptop or smart phone. You can also choose a more traditional route and go through a travel agent or reserve tickets at an airline's counter. However you choose to make travel reservations, know that the process is simple and takes only minutes of your time.

Instructions

    1

Get online and browse booking engine sites, like Orbitz and Travelocity, or an aggregator site, such as Kayak. These sites compare information from different airlines. You'll see flight times, prices, seat choices and some airport layouts. If a flight suits your needs and your budget, you can reserve tickets on a booking engine site, or go directly to the airline's website. Follow the instructions to claim a seat, reserve a ticket and, if it's a longer flight, choose your meal. You may pay using a credit card or debit card. If you aren't instructed to pay for the tickets in full at the time you make the reservation, you'll likely have to do so at least 24 hours before your departure.

    2

If you'd prefer not to book online, call an airline, or go to their counter at your airport. Discuss your travel plans and any ticket prices you have seen online or advertised in your paper. Your ticket agent will help you reserve a flight that meets your needs. Let the agent know if you require any special considerations, like wheelchair pick-up at the ramp or special diet on longer flights. Again, if you are not required to pay for the tickets in full at the time you make the reservation, you'll likely need to do so at least 24 hours before your departure. Verify this with your ticket agent.

    3

Another option is to visit a travel agent. She can assist you with schedules and fees. She may also be able to get you a better price than advertised due to affiliate programs. Your travel agent may know the airport layout and can make special arrangements for anything you require, such as assistance with mobility or someone to help you with your bags. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, "Travel agents offer advice on destinations and make arrangements for transportation, hotel accommodations, car rentals, and tours for their clients."
