How to Organize Your Travel Itinerary

Compiling a structured travel itinerary will help you stay organized on your trip so you don't have to worry about details such as addresses, phone numbers and dates. Whether you're taking a family holiday or traveling for business, a positive trip begins with preparation. Make sure your travel itinerary is in a format that's conducive to your trip. For example, have it saved in a smartphone if traveling for work or write it on a piece of paper if camping.

Instructions

    1

Open a word-processing document on your computer and type the dates you'll be away down the left-hand side of the page. Creating a digital version of your trip itinerary is ideal because you can share it with others electronically, email it to your smartphone and print copies of it.

    2

Type the information about each day's accommodations below the date in question. For example, after the first date, write the name, phone number and address of the hotel you've booked. If necessary, add room information such as "king suite" to help you remember exactly what you've booked. List the reference number that you were given when you made the booking so that you can provide it easily in the event of confusion at check-in.

    3

List the specific events or goals for each day of your trip below their corresponding dates. If traveling for business, list the important meetings, meals and other events that you must attend. If planning a holiday, plan a rough outline of when you wish to see certain attractions.

    4

Provide the intended eating accommodations for each day of your trip. If there's a certain restaurant you want to try in a certain city, list it so that you'll remember to visit it. Provide each restaurant's address and phone number so that you can call and make a reservation, if needed.

    5

Compile a list of the items you want to remember to take on your trip. This list isn't directly part of the itinerary itself, but is convenient to have in the same document. The list can contain items to take and also specific goals to accomplish before the trip, such as arranging for a hold on your mail at home.
