After your train pulls out of New York's legendary Penn Station, you'll pass through eight different states during your 18-hour ride to Atlanta. Visit Amtrak online to book your trip.

Instructions

    1

Call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak's web site in the "Resources" section below. On the web site, you can book your train reservations via Amtrak's Fare Finder. You can also navigate the site if you have a PDA, Blackberry or other handheld device.

    2

If you ordered your tickets online or by phone, pick them up at a ticket agent or at one of the Quik-Trak kiosks that can be found at many Amtrak locations (you'll need to enter your reservation number). If you've booked your trip far in advance, you can also request that your tickets be mailed to you.

    3

Consider booking the Crescent train's Viewliner Bedroom. This two- to three-passenger room comes with bath supplies, meals and luggage assistance.

    4

Select a reserved coach seat for your trip at a cost of $120. This does not include meals but the train has a caf car where you can purchase food

    5

Have your camera ready to snap the New York City skyline and the southern Blue Ridge Mountains en route to Atlanta.

Prepare for Your Arrival in Atlanta

    6

Exit the train at Atlanta. Make use of the enclosed waiting area, restrooms, pay phones and baggage help upon entrance to the train station, and get your checked luggage at the baggage service area. The station is located at 1688 Peachtree Street, NW (between Beverly Road NE and Route 13).

    7

Use Atlanta's Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), which has two lines: South-North and East-West.

    8

Treat yourself to a horse-drawn carriage ride around downtown Atlanta for an evening or daytime trip.
