How to Pack Clothes for Travel

Whether you are attempting to avoid baggage fees or simply do not want the hassle of several bags, using your space wisely is key when it comes to packing luggage. While it is easy to stuff your luggage full of every item you can imagine every needing on your trip, this is not the best use of your time, money or bag space. Organization, preparation and technique are necessary to ensure efficient use of luggage space.

Instructions

    1

Check the weather forecast for your travel destination to determine what type of clothing to pack. Make a list of the items you will need.

    2

Place your luggage on a smooth surface and open the bag. Gather all of the items on your list and place them near your luggage. Iron items if necessary and button or zip all shirts, jackets and bottoms.

    3

Place your shoes, toiletries and other heavy items on the bottom of the bag. The bottom is the end opposite the handle. This will keep your bag from falling over when you stand it up. Place your socks inside of your shoes to save space.

    4

Lay your bottoms flat and use your hand to smooth out wrinkles. Close all zippers and buttons. Fold your the bottoms in half lengthwise. Lay them on the work surface and roll them starting from the base up. Roll the clothing tightly to keep the items compact. Place the rolled clothing in the suitcase next to the heavier objects.

    5

Lay your tops flat and smooth out wrinkles. Cross the arms of your shirts and sweaters over the center of the garment. Fold the item in half lengthwise and roll it starting from the base. Roll the clothing tightly to keep the items compact. Place the rolled items next to your bottoms in the suitcase. Roll your undergarments and place them next to the tops in the suitcase or in the separate compartment on the inside of luggage if available.

    6

Check your list to make sure you have packed everything. Zip your luggage and place it next to the door so that it is easily accessed when it is time to leave.
