How to Pack Wine for Air Travel

Picking up a bottle of wine during your travels is legal, but carrying it onto the plane yourself is not. This means you will need to carefully pack your wine in your checked luggage. Luckily, a few key steps can ensure your wine makes it to your destination in one piece.

Instructions

    1

Place the bottle in not one but two plastic bags. If the bottle breaks, the spill will be contained to the bag, and the other items in your luggage will not be damaged.

    2

Use packing tape to secure the plastic bag, creating a tight seal.

    3

Place the bottle in a box and stuff it with packing peanuts. Make sure peanuts are evenly distributed to all sides of the box. Tape the box shut.

    4

Wrap the box with an item of clothing from your luggage. A sweatshirt or sweatpants--or even a towel--will work best.

    5

Place box in your suitcase and pack around it carefully. Make sure you have soft items on each side of the box to act as a cushion.
