When preparing to take a road trip with your pet there are a number of things you should have on hand. Just like packing a bag for your children, your pets need a travel bag, too. You need to have food and water, a toy or two, maybe a favorite blanket, and all their important items. This article will help you decide what to pack.

How to Pack a Dog Travel Bag

    1

Gather your dogs presecriptions, vet records, shot records and medications. Depending on the length of your trip, you may put a single dose of medications into a zipper bag.

    2

Put a food dish and water dish into a bag. For space saving, try a pop-up travel dish. For added home comfort, bring your dog's every day dishes.

    3

Measure enough food for the length of your trip and pour it into a zipper bag.

    4

Fill a bottle with water to put in the bag. Washed out large Gatorade bottles are perfect.

    5

Pack waste bags for cleaning up after your dog at rest areas.

    6

Put a pet first aid kit in an easily accessible spot in your travel bag.

    7

Pack an extra leash in your travel bag just in case.

    8

Pack a zipper bag of some treats and favorite toy(s).

    9

Put everything in the bag and make sure it's stowed in an easy to reach place in your vehicle.
