There has been a great increase in the number of both business and personal travelers who need to bring their laptop along on their travels. Keeping yourself and your laptop safe requires paying attention to three major areas: airport safety, hotel room safety and personal safety. Read on to learn how to travel safely with a laptop.

Instructions

    1

Get your laptop safely through the airport. Protect against theft by keeping the laptop close to you at all times. Carry it in a padded laptop case to protect it against bumps and bruises. Also make sure to carry your laptop onto your flight. Most airlines allow you to have one carry on and one extra item, such as a purse or laptop bag, on your flight. Follow the airport's signs and directions when taking your laptop through the security screening.

    2

Keep your laptop safe in your hotel room. When you leave your room, store your laptop in your in-room safe. If you don't have a safe available, consult the front desk for options and suggestions.

    3

Protect your personal information. No matter how careful you are, there is a chance that your laptop could fall into the wrong hands. Always password protect any documents with personal financial information. Before you travel, turn off and clear out the cookies on your machine so that Internet websites don't automatically log on to allow access to your accounts. Go through your hard drive and remove or protect anything that has sensitive information.
