Board Amtrak's Coast Starlight line to see California's shores and Oregon's countryside. This train has plenty of amenities, and offers a smooth and comfortable ride.

Instructions

    1

Call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak's web site in the "Resources" section below. On the web site, you can book your train reservations via Amtrak's Fare Finder. You can also navigate the site if you have a PDA, Blackberry or other handheld device.

    2

If you ordered your tickets online or by phone, pick them up at a ticket agent or at one of the Quik-Trak kiosks that can be found at many Amtrak locations (you'll need to enter your reservation number). If you've booked your trip far in advance, you can also request that your tickets be mailed to you.

    3

Purchase a coach ticket to get a well-lit seat with space to stretch your legs. This line features dining and snack cars, as well as a sightseer lounge. A typical fare is about $90.

    4

Upgrade to one of the four levels of sleeping cars (prices go up depending on the number of passengers). A Roomette is typically for two people, and has seats that fold out to form beds. Larger rooms come with sofas, a private bathroom and even a private shower.

Enjoy Your Train Ride to Seattle

    5

Watch during the 35-hour train trip for great views of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and the Space Needle in Seattle.

    6

Make a reservation for the full-service dining car, which serves fresh-made breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    7

Read the Amtrak route guide that will be handed out by the train attendant upon boarding

    8

Spend time in the lounge car and enjoy a snack while taking some photographs of the sites along the way. Refer to the route guide for tips on photo opportunities.
