How to Travel in My Twenties

When people are in their twenties, it's generally a time for them to finish their formal education, start a career path and start their adult life in general. Traveling during your twenties can oftentimes be more affordable and convenient than any other time in your life since many people in their twenties have a flexible, more disposable income and usually don't have children to take care of or look after. You can explore several opportunities to travel either alone or with others during your twenties, including by plane or by car.

Instructions

    1

Travel during the summers or in January. If you're still enrolled in college, you most likely will have off of school during the summer months and between semesters in January. Choose a destination and go there with a group of friends or by yourself. Certain travel websites offer discounts and more inexpensive airfare to college students that may help you travel for cheaper.

    2

Travel for spring break if you're still in college. Many college students receive a week off of school in either March or April. During this week off, some students travel to destinations such as Florida or Mexico. Gather a group of friends and look for resort packages that are in your price range. Agree to share the costs of the trip by sleeping three or four people to a room and by splitting meals with one another.

    3

Study abroad if you are still in college. Most universities, if not all, have study abroad programs in countries like Spain, China and Poland. Attend informational seminars or schedule a meeting with your college's international programs office to find a semester abroad. Such trips allow students to earn college credit and also have lodging and food paid for. Some programs may only cost a few thousand more than your normal semester tuition and you may be able to pay for the trip through scholarships, a work study program or through student loans.

    4

Take a road trip with friends. If you and your friends are between jobs, can get time off from a job or are on summer vacation, choose a destination to visit by car. Find attractions and sights that you'd all like to see and plan a trip itinerary. Decide whose car you will take or decide to split the cost of renting a car. Have everyone chip in some money for gas as needed and split the cost of a hotel room, if you stay somewhere overnight.

    5

Find a job that requires frequent travel. Depending on the job field you are in, you may be able to find a position that requires frequently traveling. While you won't be able to choose the destinations to which you travel, you will be able to various parts of the United States and possibly even the world.

    6

Go on family vacations. When you're in your twenties, your parents may still plan family vacations to various destinations around the country. They may also volunteer to pay for everyone to go on the trip or at least pay for the cost of travel. Family vacations can be an inexpensive way to travel while simultaneously getting in some quality family time.
