How to Create a Travel Journal for Kids

Travel, even if it's just a field trip, empowers children by providing them with new experiences to learn about history, culture and art. Travel allows kids to make lasting impression and learn facts about people, places and things that remember for a long time. A travel journal assists them in this task, as it provides kids with the privacy and freedom to jot down their thoughts, feelings and impressions of places, solidifying the entire experience in their minds.

Instructions

    1

Cut your 30 sheets of the 8.5 inch by 11 inch paper in half so that it is 8.5 inches by 6.5 inches. Use a cutting board so you make an even slice. Place small stacks of the paper into a three hole punch, and punch two holes along the longest side.

    2

Cut two skinny sheets of cardboard so that each of them is 8.5 inches by 6.5 inches in dimension. Place each sheet of cardboard into the three hole punch along the longest side. The three hole punch may have difficulty piercing the cardboard, in which case, poke two holes along the 8.5 inch side with the tip of a pair of scissors. Make sure the holes you poke line up with the holes in the paper. These sheet of cardboard will act as the top and bottom covers of the journal.

    3

Place your plastic binder folder underneath the top cardboard cover of the journal. This plastic sleeve will be a spot in the journal for the child to place pictures or postcards from their travels. Gather all your paper neatly together and place it underneath the folder.

    4

Sandwich the outer cardboard cover underneath the paper. Underneath the outer cover, layer your canvas pencil case. The pencil case will carry a pen for the child to write with but also serves as a place for the child to keep mementos and artifacts from his trip.

    5

Check all the holes and make sure they more or less line up. Push a loose metal binder ring through each of the holes of the journal and clip them in place. Select textured stickers that contain all the letters of the alphabet and spell out the child's name on the front of the journal. Underneath the child's name spell out the words "Travel Journal" in a different color sticker.
