Vacationing in a travel trailer with flushing toilets, a shower and a kitchen sink adds an extra level of comfort to your excursions. Every camper reaches the point, however, when you have to flush out the black and gray tanks. Learn to properly empty and flush out your tanks with minimal splashing and get back on the road in a short time. Dump stations are available at many campgrounds and at rest areas along major highways.
Instructions
- 1
Put on rubber gloves. Wear rubber boots for extra protection.
2Take off the travel trailer's holding tank cap. Attach one end of the three-inch sewer hose to the tank outlet and take the other end into the dump station opening.
3Slide your sewer hose four to six inches into the dump station opening. Secure the hose in the hole with the dump station hole cover or a heavy object such as a rock.
4Locate your travel trailer's black tank valve and open it to flush and empty the tank. Listen for the flow to slow down and then stop. Return the valve to the closed position. Open the trailer's gray tank valve to flush and empty it. Close the valve when the water stops flowing out.
5Fill your tanks two-thirds full with water to flush them out again. Empty the black tank and then the gray tank. Close both of the tank valves when finished.
6Remove the sewer hose from the trailer's tank outlet and put the tank outlet cover back on. Raise that end of the hose to empty any remaining liquid into the dump station hole. Spray water from a hose inside the sewer hose to wash it out. Slide the sewer hose out of the dump station hole and rinse it off with the water hose. Wash off the ground surrounding the dump station hole.
