How to Make-it-Yourself Personalized Travel Mugs

Many people love to make holiday or birthday gifts to give to their friends. Making a present is not only a joy, but it conveys a sense of caring that a simple store bought gift sometimes does not. An easy homemade gift for your family and friends is a personalized travel mug. It is a gift that is inexpensive to make and that most gift recipients will use almost everyday -- especially if they are coffee lovers and commuters. Making a personalized travel mug requires only a few supplies as well as a little of your time.

Select a plastic travel mug that has two sections for the cup. The first section should be a clear outer shell of the cup that you can see through, while the second section should be a colorful plastic inner liner. That inner liner should screw out of the cup when the lid is off.

Screw the inner liner out of the cup and measure the width of the cup around the widest portion of the liner. Also measure the height of the liner.

Draw out your measurements for the liner on a piece of colorful wrapping paper or construction paper in a color of your choice. Draw lines for the width and length of the liner on the paper using a pencil and ruler.

Cut out the liner outline with scissors.

Add photos of family, animals, pets or places the travel mug owner would enjoy. Attach the photos to the wrapping paper or construction paper with either tape or glue.

Draw a personalized design on the construction paper, as desired. Paint your design with acrylic paints and a paintbrush or markers. Include the name of the cup recipient in the design.

Roll the wrapping paper or construction paper around the cup liner and secure the seams of the paper with clear tape to hold it in place. Slide the liner back into the outer layer and reattach the lid.
