Much of the biggest joy of vacation travel can come in the small details-having your hotel room clean and ready when you arrive; going to a restaurant that perfectly prepares your all-time favorite meal; being able to sleep in whenever you like. Here are just a few tips to make your next great getaway even greater.

Decide what really makes your travels enjoyable before choosing your destination/s. A leisurely beach escape in a remote place might sound perfect, but not if you're someone who needs to do different things every day; likewise a busy itinerary with eight different overnight stays might seem exciting, but it's not exactly a restful vacation. What are you looking to get out of this trip?
2Make sure to eat healthy and get plenty of sleep in the days leading up to your journey. You'll be fresher and more energized, and will be less likely to have a cold or stomach ailment as well.
3Put on a cheery face when conversing with hotel staff, airline agents and the like, even when problems arise. You'll get better service in return, and keep your mind in a better frame.
4Be ready to be adventurous, even in some small way. Try a food you normally wouldn't eat, an activity you've never indulged in-you'll have more fun, and it will make the trip more memorable as well.
5Interact with the locals and ask about the best places to eat and coolest things to do. You'll meet some nice people most likely, and get some insightful advice as well.
6Splurge on yourself now and then, within reason. Work a superb restaurant outing into your trip budget or spend at least one night at a deluxe hotel; you're on vacation after all!
7Follow your heart and do what you feel like. If you have a tour around town planned, but are having the time of your life at the driving range, for example, cancel the tour and do what feels right. This is your special time to indulge in whatever you want.
