How to Travel With a Wedding Dress on a Plane

Traveling on a plane with your wedding dress can be nerve-racking as you try to figure out how to ensure your dress will arrive with you -- undamaged. Do your best to protect your dress from any moisture, dirt, damage, loss and theft as you travel to your destination. Some planes have enough room to enable the staff to accommodate your needs, while others are simply too cramped. Ask your airline if they have any specific requirements or advice for traveling with your gown.

Instructions

    1

Put the dress in a folding garment bag that conforms to carry-on sizes. If you want additional protection, consider rolling the garment bag into a traditional piece of carry-on luggage. Alternatively, put the dress in a box designed specifically to fit inside the overhead compartments in planes.

    2

Ask your airline if you can board the plane early to situate your dress. If the plane has on-board closets, ask a flight attendant if you may hang your dress in the closet. If not, put it in the overhead compartment. Some flight attendants may prohibit other patrons from using the same overhead compartment as you if there is enough room on the plane.

    3

Keep your dress with you if at all possible. Some smaller planes may not have the space for your dress to go on-board with you. If you are taking any small planes that would require you to check your dress, consider shipping it to your destination ahead of time.
