How to Travel Between Maui & Honolulu, Hawaii

Many visitors to Hawaii travel to different islands. Honolulu is on the island of Oahu, where vacationers can swim or lounge on Waikiki Beach, visit Pearl Harbor, Lolani Palace, Kawaiahao Church, Mission Houses and the Bishop Museum. Honolulu offers a wide variety of dining and nightlife options. Maui boasts sandy white beaches, rain forests and volcanic craters. Visitors can tour a hillside winery, see the sun rise over Haleakala or go humpback whale watching. As of 2010 the only way to travel between Maui and Honolulu is by air, and there are frequent flights between the islands. Honolulu has one airport. Maui has two airports -- Kahului is the larger airport and West Kapaula is for small propeller planes. The flight between Honolulu and Maui is approximately 20-minutes long, but you should allow about two hours for check-in and security.

Instructions

    1

Compare prices and check flight times on the websites of the interisland airline companies. If you are in Hawaii already, someone at your hotel or at a local touring company can help you look into flights. Round trip flights range from $80 up to $300, depending upon the type of ticket, the day and time of the flight, and seating.

    2

Make reservations and purchase your tickets. It is important to book your flight in advance. Most airlines do not offer standby tickets and last minute tickets can be costly.

    3

Arrive at the airline at least 90 minutes before your flight is scheduled to depart, as it often takes this long to go through security. Make sure you have a passport or other form of identification to show the airline clerk when you check in.
