Military veterans have given years of sacrifice and service in the name of our country. They are therefore, quite rightly, eligible to receive certain benefits and discounts. Discounted travel is one of many perks that could save you some cash and give you that much needed vacation.

Instructions

    1

Be eligible. Veterans' discounts are available to any veteran and retiree of the United States armed forces, providing they received an honorable discharge. Retired service members and their dependents qualify for additional discounts such as space-available flights and military lodgings. Check your status by reviewing the guidelines put out by the military (see Resources).

    2

Keep up with changes of the benefits offered to veterans. With an ever-changing military structure, you must be certain of your rights. Some benefits have time limits that expire after a certain period of separation or retirement.

    3

Be informed. Veterans often qualify for entirely free admission to military affiliated buildings and events such as museums and memorials. These events can take place all over the world.

    4

Join the club. The Veterans advantage club (see Resources) offers discounted rates on anything from air and train travel to cruises and day trips. Becoming a member will give you immediate access to the best deals negotiated by the association.

    5

Shop around. Many websites and publications offer discounted travel for veterans. Compare different packages and prices to find the best deals. Many hotels offer military and government rates that are often heavily discounted from the regular rates. Ask to see if veterans can apply.
