Enlarge Image Every now and then, you deserve to take mini vacations that are spent alone or with family and friends. A short break from work, home, and school will not only relax you but bring you back rejuvenated. There are various budget vacations you can take right in your own city. You don't even have to pack or plan months ahead because that's the beauty of small vacations. So, when are you thinking of taking this short vacation? If you haven't decided yet, then why not clear this coming weekend, decide whom you wish to take this vacation with, and get going. Trust me, it will be one of the best decisions you'll make. And to help you figure out what your next trip can be, we have put together few suggestions below.

Last-minute Vacation Ideas

The reason why I'm calling these ideas as "last minute" is because you literally don't need to plan ahead of time. You can just make an impromptu plan, grab few essentials, and head out. When you make plans at the last moment, you can find out how much adventure there is when you don't have every move of yours pre-decided.

Bed and Breakfast
Spending a cozy, romantic night at a Bed and Breakfast is one of the best vacation for couples. You could call ahead of time and make reservations, but if you want to be adventurous then take a road trip to your destination. You can pack a picnic basket and choose a spot to enjoy each other's company. Bring a bottle of wine and take time to really be with one another. Reach the Bed and Breakfast and spend time in the room or around town. Have a romantic candlelight dinner, take a walk (if there is a beach close by), and return to your room for some alone time.

Annual Festivals
Does your town or any town close to where you live host annual arts and crafts festivals? If yes then here's a fun idea for couples and for families with children. You can research about upcoming festivals in small towns and communities and spend the weekend enjoying. There are festivals like chili cooking festival, mushroom Mardi Gras festival, Renaissance fine arts festival, street fair, Octoberfest (Oh Yeah!), etc.; I think you get my gist.

Spa Time
Another way to relax and unwind is to choose a spa destination. There are many spa retreats that have special offers for couples and groups of people. Opt for one those offers and spend the weekend getting pampered. Get therapeutic massages, do yoga, Pilates, acupuncture, colon cleansing, go on nature hikes, mountain climbing, or take part in some cooking classes. Every spa retreat has different activities that they offer. So pick the one that you love the most.

Sleepover Vacation
Call your friends over for a sleepover. Have them grab essentials for the weekend (change of clothes, toothbrush, etc.). Now what you need to do is set up the house for the sleepover. Get movie DVDs, instant popcorn packets, ice cream, ingredients to make S'mores, and the number of the pizza parlor. When your guests are home, pop in the DVD, enjoy eating pizzas and popcorn. Also, you can set up tents in the backyard so in the night, you can sleep among the stars. It's the best way to spend the weekend without having to leave your home.

More Fun Vacations Ideas
  • Amusement Parks
  • National Zoo (in your city)
  • Wine Country
  • Deep-sea Fishing
  • Hiking and Trekking
  • Camping in Woods
  • Whale Watching
Out of all these mini vacation destinations, have you finalized any place yet? Not many people can find the opportunity, time, and that excitement to just get up and enjoy their lives. So when you have that chance, use it. Who knows, you might just find a new meaning of life while you're at it.
